چکیده

Business intelligence tools have enabled novel and relatively low-cost capabilities to collect and analyze vast amount of customer information. Accumulation of customer specific information along with transactional data empowers firms to categorize customers into segments and offer customized prices. We study the impact of price discrimination and market segmentation on competition and consumer purchase behavior in a game-theoretic model with two asymmetric firms. At equilibrium, both firms price discriminate and segment the market. Contrary to previous price discrimination and market segmentation findings, the game is not necessarily a prisoner’s dilemma. The firm dominating the industry is likely to improve its profits at the expense of the rival firm, and consumer welfare will increase with segmentation. We define two fundamental parameters, market dominance and the technology cost to industry dominance ratio, to drive segmentation technology adoption decisions, as a basis for our analytical

Centralized Supply Chain Network Ddesign: Monopoly, Duopoly, and Ooligopoly Competitions under Uncertainty

This paper presents a competitive supply chain network design problem in which one, two, or three supply chains are planning to enter the price-dependent markets simultaneously in uncertain environments and decide to set the prices and shape their networks. The chains produce competitive products either identical or highly substitutable. Fuzzy multi-level mixed integer programming is used to mo...

Location choice and price discrimination in a duopoly

This paper analyses the problem of price discrimination and product design in a duopoly model with both horizontal and vertical differentiation. Discriminatory contracts are first characterised at each customer location. It is then shown that firms’ locations have a big impact on their discriminatory ability and that equilibrium locations are not monotonic with respect to the heterogeneity para...

Bertrand-nash Equilibrium in the Retail Duopoly Model under Asymmetric Costs

In this paper, the Bertrand's price competition in the retail duopoly with asymmetric costs is analyzed. Retailers sell substitute products in the framework of the classical economic order quantity (EOQ) model with linear demand function. The market potential and competitor price are considered to be the bifurcation parameters of retailers. Levels of the barriers to market penetration depending...

Should a firm engage in behaviour-based price discrimination when facing a price discriminating rival? A game-theory analysis

This article analyses the pricing policy equilibria emerging in a duopoly when one firmmay choose whether to engage in behaviour-based price discrimination or uniform pricing while the rival price discriminates. The question we address is: should a firm price discriminate when facing a price discriminating rival? Our main conclusion is that, if the consumers are sufficiently myopic, it is bette...

Unfortunately, some use...
